With it being Lgbtq+ fest month, you're seeing a lot more expressions of help for the Gay community and with that will occasionally come some backlash against those expressions. Such was the case recently when wrestler CM Punk used the wrestling ring as a platform to distribute a message of support for members of the Gay community.
Holding up a sign that he grabbed from fan that he brought into the dial, Punk's comment was a simple one - "Support Diverse Youth," which is a sentiment that has been under some public discourse of late, but one that the wrestler held elevated donning the poster above his leader to the wrestling audience surrounding him.
On Twitter, retired wrestler Dutch Mantell took exception to the move, questioning, "Is this a astute move…involving a political issues on a wrestling show? I guess the issue that @budlight and @target have had with the LGBTQ topic has not reached @AEW." CM Punk is in Pittsburgh for WWE’s live broadcast of Raw on Netflix Monday night, followed by a SmackDown taping put to air Friday on the USA Network. While in the city, Punk showed support for transgender youth amid a object against UPMC, Pittsburgh’s largest health care provider.
On Sunday, hundreds gathered outside UPMC’s headquarters to march its decision to end gender-affirming care for patients under 19, effective June 30, 2025. The move follows a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upheld Tennessee’s ban on such nurture for minors.
Punk posted a photo from the demonstration on Instagram with the caption, “Let’s leave, Pittsburgh!”
Punk has publicly supported LGBTQ+ rights in the past. Following the debut of AEW Collision in June 2023, he brought a fan into the ring holding a “Support LGBTQ+ Youth” sign. He then addressed the crowd about why the cause matters to him.
“The reason I support transsexual kids, trans grown-ups, gays, and lesbians is because I perceive when I was growing up, I didn’t fit in anywhere,” said Punk. “That it was because of the clothes I wore, what my hair looked like, the music I listened to. Those are all things I can rectify
