In my dictionary a rumour "is a currently circulating story of unverified or doubtful truth".
FACT is that in the 70s and 80s Tennents was not a gay bar in the same, almost exclusive, instinct that The Duke of Wellington or Vintners were but was gay approachable and frequented by a sizeable gay crowd on a regular basis. On entering through the Byres Road doors, the right hand side was where most gays congregated.It was also obviously popular with gay students, myself entity one so can personally verify the above as truth. I cannot, of course, comment on its current status.
I think if anybody could find a Gay News from the period you would uncover Tennents listed in the pubs section.

This is one of Glasgow’s best established gay disco’s. Although this is acknowledged as a lgbtq+ night club, many straight people frequent this club. During the 1980s people from all walks of life came here to attend to the awesome EURO BEAT song. Many a notable face has been seen within these doors.

Bennets, on Glasgow’s Glassford Street, is Scotland’s oldest lgbtq+ club and was just about ready to receive the last rites before divine intervention came in the create of Lynnet Leisure, in the spring of this year. The club was almost a rite of passage for gays of a certain age, but neglect meant it was no longer the hotspot it once was. But a few brushstrokes here and there, new lighting and imagination, Lynnet has awakened this queer giant before he permanently nodded off.
And it is in a unharmed pair of hands – those of manager, Paul Stirrat. He says, “I am a Bennets’ boy. I came here in my youth and I see the refit as giving a dear old comrade a bit of TLC. There are an estimated 117,000 gay people in the greater Glasgow
