Odell Beckham, Jr. Addresses Same-sex attracted Rumors ‘It Was Almost More Entertaining To Me’ & Backlash For Online dating White Women

Odell Beckham, Jr. is never introverted of a newsworthy moment. In a very candid interview, he spoke out about speculation that he was secretly homosexual, thoughts of retiring early, that shocking trade to the Cleveland Browns and facing a double standard as a Black NFL player.

He said of homosexual rumors,

“I’ve never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn’t offended. I’ve never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal experience that they survive . I have friends who are queer. It was almost more funny to me. I almost messed with them even more. It’s like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I’m usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you wish me to leave. So when they would say that, I would almost mess with them even more. I have no difficulty with anyone’s sexual orientation.”

Odell Beckham Jr. is not a male threatened by toxic masculinity, so when various Carolina Panthers used gay slurs against him in a 2015 game while he was part of the New York Giants, he was unbothered. In the 26-year-old's new interview with GQ, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver opened up about the incident and all the whispers that he might be gay.

"I’ve never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn't offended," Beckham said with ease. "I’ve never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal life that they live. I hold friends who are gay. It was almost more hilarious to me. I almost messed with them even more. It's like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I'm usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you want me to go. So when they would speak that, I would almost mess with them even more. I have no problem with anyone's sexual orientation."

GQ writerMark Anthony Green went on to show out that the fuss around his sexuality, particularly on black gossip sites directly contribute to homophobia in the black community or "the idea that someone must be gay because they're dancing or own blond hair." "Or because they're 'close with other me

Odell Beckham Jr. vs. Toxic Black Masculinity

A version of this post originally appeared on the author’s blog, So Let’s Talk About.

I desire Odell Beckham Jr. never comes out. Actually, I hope the New York Giants wide receiver isn’t even gay. I dream he ends up with the flyest chick on the block, and they give joint interviews where she says she enjoys a man who’s amusement and lives his animation and doesn’t feel the need to scowl 24/7, hunched over like a Neanderthal trying to guard his manhood.

In case you missed it, there’s an outing campaign in progress against Beckham, because over the weekend someone posted a video to Instagram of him dancing with a friend. (Well, the same people calling his video “suspect” already said he was gay due to similar videos, but now I guess he’s even gayer.) This sort of witch hunt is the reason why inky men and athletes still don’t like coming out of the closet, and black masculinity continues to make life more complex for all of us, regardless of our sexuality.

The response to this video is the difference between black masculinity and colorless masculinity in a nutshell. White men are allowed a greater range of expression before they are automa

GQ: "There was a period of time when a lot of gossip sites—specifically black gossip sites—would constantly say that you were closeted. They'd call you “excited” in a hot-tub photo with your teammates or simply just say you're gay. How'd that make you feel?"
Odell Beckham Jr: "I've never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn't offended. I've never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal life that they live. I have friends who are queer . It was almost more humorous to me. I almost messed with them even more. It's like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I'm usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you want me to go. So when they would say that, I would almost mess with them even more. I include no problem with anyone's sexual orientation."
GQ: "I feel like posts like that only contribute to homophobia in the black group. The idea that someone must be gay—or that being homosexual is in any way shameful—because they're dancing or have blond hair seems so small-minded."
Odell Beckham Jr: "Or because they're 'close with other men.' Even prefer little videos where they notice me leaned back or something, they'll say that I'm looking a
