Writers, how can I support you?

gay

A person who is sexually attracted to someone of the matching gender. Although typically associated with male same-sex attraction, the word can be used to exhibit any same-sex attraction. Do not apply in constructions with negative connotations, e.g. “that’s so gay”, etc.

gay agenda

The political activism of promoting gay values, but can be viewed as a negative, self-promoting attitude where all the cards are not fully revealed.

gay lifestyle

There is no single LGBTQ lifestyle. LGBTQ people are diverse in the ways they lead their lives. The phrases “gay lifestyle,” “homosexual lifestyle,” and “transgender lifestyle” are used to denigrate LGBTQ people suggesting that their sexual orientation and/or gender identity (see Transgender Glossary of Terms) is a choice and therefore can and should be “cured” (see AP, Reuters, & New York Times Style). Coined by, or at least first recorded in, the works of British author P. G. Wodehouse ca 1923, ponk is an intransitive verb meaning, basically, that something sucks or is really, really crappy.

Wodehouse began using the synonyms in the 1920s when Jazz Age slang was all the rage in England. It is spoken in Series 1, Episode 4 of the BBC comedy, "Blandings," adapted from Wodehouse's "Blandings Castle" book series, 1915-1975.

George, a lad: "Jeepers. Who is this blister?"
Baxter: "I am your tutor, young man.
George: "Tutor? In the summer holidays? Crikey, that ponks."
Connie, George's aunt: "Clarence, have you no authority over this child?"
Clarence, George's uncle: "Well, it does ponk."
