Charlie Carver came out after a lgbtq+ man slapped him for being too ‘effeminate’

Charlie Carver, actor of Teen Wolf and The Boys in the Band, says he decided to come out publicly after a male lover man slapped him for being too effeminate.

Speaking to Variety, Carver, 32, says he was at an Emmys party when a same-sex attracted colleague slapped him and told him to get his mannerisms “under control” so as to not appear openly gay at industry events.

He said the unnamed man, who he had worked with previously, admonished him repeatedly for being effeminate.

“I was told that I needed to ‘get it under control’ around people in the business,” Carver said.

Later that evening, Carver said he approached the guy and asked him to explain what he meant, at which point the man struck him.

“It wasn’t playful but intentional, pointed and meant to be instructive. A slap,” he told Variety. “I told him that if he ever touched me again, I would name him.”

The interaction led Carver, who rose to fame on Desperate Housewives alongside twin brother Max, to decide to publicly come out.

“That was the moment when I said to myself, ‘I can’t do this. I cannot poli

Max and Charlie Carver Get Inside Each Other’s Head

It’s manageable to assume that Max and Charlie Carver have been inseparable since birth. As identical twins who both became actors, the 32-year-old brothers have been appearing in projects together since 2008, when they made their debut as the rebellious Scavo twins on Desperate Housewives. Since then, they’ve acted together in MTV’s Teen Wolf, HBO’s The Leftovers, and the 2017 modern Shakespeare adaptation A Midsummer Night’s Dream. But the truth is, Max and Charlie, who hail from San Francisco and were born seven minutes apart, separated while at boarding school as a way to carve out a meaning of individuality. They reunited at the University of Southern California, and by then, the Carvers’ acting career was well underway. Since then, they’ve avoided the obvious trap of being typecast as lookalikes. Max went on to appear in projects like The Office and the 2014 romantic comedy Ask Me Anything, while Charlie made his Broadway debut in The Boys in the Band (he reprised his role in this year’s film adaptation), and most recently starred as the wounded war veteran Huck in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix thriller Ratched.
