What's the gayest nourishment in metro Phoenix? Here's what 6 queer chefs said

"What is the gayest item on your menu? And what does gay sustenance even mean?" I asked six homosexual chefs and restaurant owners on my quest to detect the gayest meal in Phoenix.

What began as a tongue-in-cheek reflection on "gay" food, inspired by an article by Jaya Saxena for Eater.com, quickly became a deeper meditation on what it means to be visibly queer and run a culinary business in metro Phoenix.

One particular response exemplified the tension that many of the chefs I spoke to give — the feeling that being lgbtq+ and a chef means everything and also nothing.

"We're just two guys that want to market some hot dogs," said Christopher Campbell, who opened steaming dog shop RoRo Dogs with his fiance in February. "It's not a gay thing, but we're gay, so our culture considerate of works its way into the business one way or another."

Here's what six queer chefs had to speak about the gayest dishes on their menus.
