The infamous photos of Mexican-American boxing legend and entrepreneur Oscar De La Hoya wearing fishnet panty hose, heels while posing in boxing gloves and also posing seductively in the bathtub, is a sight most fans either yearn to forget or will never forget.

For years that photo, sold by a woman to the tabloids, created a narrative around De La Hoya that he was possibly gay or at the very least a cross-dresser, although his close friends and opponents such as Sugar Shane Mosley denied it, as has De La Hoya.

Oscar De La Hoya has been caught up in a social media controversy after a video posted of him and his significant other was removed obeying a number of complaints.  

De La Hoya - who is American fighter Ryan Garcia's promoter - took to Instagram to share a video of himself dancing with his partner Holly Sonders in what has been described by Spanish outlet Marca as 'a sexual boogie'. 

Sonders is filmed in underwear, while De La Hoya is wearing nothing but a leopard print thong as the two boogie together to Spanish-language song Loca People by Sak Noel. 

The video, unsurprisingly, fast went viral, but as a product was brought to the attention of those that seemingly were not so impressed with the clip. 

One account re-posted the clip before it was taken down by Instagram, writing: 'She looks disgusting and Oscar is having mid-life crisis.

Oscar De La Hoya finally addresses the infamous photos of his crossdressing - when he was pictured in fishnet lingerie and high heels - during a raw two-part documentary about his life.

The Golden Boy, which is released on July 24 by HBO, tells the memorable story of De La Hoya's rise and fall in boxing.

The 50-year-old, now a promoter, became one of the most accepted fighters of all time en route to winning Olympic gold and world titles in six weight classes. 

But De La Hoya has also been dogged by scandal and substance abuse. He has faced accusations of sexual assault, while infamous photographs from his secret life have made their way into the open.

'The world fell in love with my story... but it was a lie,' De La Hoya says in the documentary. 'I've never told anybody what really happened.'
