  The Story of Aspen Gay Ski Week

  Arguably the biggest party of the winter season, Aspen Lgbtq+ Ski Week has matured. Now entering its 48th year (taking place January 12–19, 2025), the beloved LGBTQ+ ski event with a worldwide draw is bigger, broader, and more inclusive than ever—par for the course given its proud history.

  It was the party culture of the ’70s clashing with old-fashioned unacceptance that led to the formation of a nonprofit to move Aspen Gay Ski Week and employ it as a force for nice in the society. During the decade, a group of local men had started regularly hanging out with queer visitors from ski clubs around the country. By 1977, the reunions became more official, with each club hosting parties in their condos on diverse nights for a week in January, and the local contingent throwing the welcome party.
  

  But as liberal as Aspen was, being same-sex attracted in public wasn’t universally accepted (hence the condo parties)—a reality that spurred Jon Busch, one of Aspen Lgbtq+ Ski Week’s founders, to advocate for gay rights after getting in trouble for dancing with another man at a local prevent.   Drag Queen Bingo: On January 12th and 19th from 12:30-2:00pm at the Collective, head to Drag Queen Bingo for laughter, prizes, and a drag performance.

  Mountain Du Jour, Snowmass: At 10:00 a.m. on January 14th and 18th, meet at the base of the mountain at 10am to join ski ambassadors for a day on the slopes! If you view rainbow flags and bandanas on people’s gear, you know you’re in the right place. Plus, head to Stark’s at the Viewline Resort for après parties on January 14th and January 18th!

  Threads of Pride – Stories of Resilience, Love, and Becoming: Join for an inclusive, family-friendly storytelling event at The Collective on Tuesday, January 14th. Participants will share personal narratives that explore pivotal moments of development, self-acceptance, finding community, and navigating challenges–all aspects that resonate deeply within the Queer experience.

  Who is AspenOUT?
  AspenOUT is a non-profit group dedicated to helping the LGBTQIA+ community 
  through support for local and national initiatives, organizations and people.  
  
  We award grants to local and national LGBTQIA+ organizations. 
  We subsidize mental health care for youth in Roaring Fork Valley and across Colorado. 
  We support local youth through college GSAs, leadership workout, social gatherings and college scholarships. 
  We train educators and health care providers to beat understand and assist the queer community. 
  We create connections through regular gatherings and special events.
